New Year Questionnaire!

A Modern Mrs.

Q: Did you keep your 2012 resolution(s)? Will you make more for 2013?
I don't call them resolutions.  I set goals for myself and the biggest ones for 2012 were to take better care of myself by working out regularly and eating better.  I've done better than I thought I would.  For 2013 I want to be the best me I can be.

Q: What did you do in 2012 that you've never done before?
It's not exactly a thing I've done, more of a realization I've had. I become more comfortable in my skin every year, and 2012 has me feeling pretty solid about who I am.

Q: What was your most favorite moment of the year?
I don't have a singular favorite moment, but I've enjoyed all the time I've been able to spend time with my family and see a smile on my kids' faces.

Q: What song will always remind you of 2012?
I'm SO out of the music loop.  I usually listen to sports radio when I'm in my van (even when my husband ISN'T with me!). I don't have answer for this one.

Q: Did you learn a valuable lesson in 2012?
I'd like to say I had some profound insight into something this year, but no.  I am trying really hard to not worry myself sick over things I have no control over.  It's really hard to do that though.

Not a whole lot of difference. Hair is a little longer and a different color, and now I have glasses. But the picture on the left feels like it was taken a million years ago (taken May of 2011)! The one on the left was taken Dec 27th, just last Thursday.

Please feel free to participate in this!

NYX Smokey Look Collection-pictures and swatches

I picked this up at Ulta last week and while it's still on sale (regular price is $24.99, on sale it's $19.99) I thought I'd get some pictures and swatches up for you.  This set comes with 48 eyeshadows, a bronzer,  a contour and highlight, 3 blushes, a small brush and sponge tipped applicator, a small eyeliner pencil, 16 lip colors, 12 glitter creams, and 4 concealers.  Everything is swatched on bare skin, no primer. On each set of swatches the first 4 are the 4 that go across, and the rest are the rest in that color family.

As you can see some of the shadows are nicely pigmented, and some I really had to dig into and they still didn't swatch very well.  Overall for everything that's included and the price, I think it's worth picking up if you're interested in it.

I haven't forgotten!

I haven't posted anything new in about a week, but I haven't forgotten about the blog!  I got sick last week (caught whatever evil my husband had) and I'm still trying to get over it.  I've not been doing a whole lot except sitting around feeling dreadful.  I am starting to feel a little better though, so hopefully I'll be able to get something posted tomorrow.  On top of not feeling well I'm trying to get all of my Christmas shopping wrapped up and I haven't even actually started wrapping stuff yet!  Just thought I'd pop in and let you know I do posts planned, just bear with me while I try to get them. Thanks for sticking around!

Women Connect '12:What I Love About My Husband

Kristen over at http://www.amodernmrs.com/ did a little blog tag type thing that she had seen on another blog (you can click above to visit there) and considering the topic, I thought it might be nice to do it, too.

I have a very long history with my husband (his name is Jack).  It's a little Jerry Springer-ish.  I met my husband through my first husband while we were married.  They are step-brothers.  My ex's mother is married to my Jack's father.  Are you still with me?  We met 18 years ago and the first time I saw him I knew there was something there.  But, I was married, and I went on, living my life.  I got married for the first time very young, right before my 17th birthday.  It wasn't meant to be and after 5 years of together, then apart, then together, then apart, I was done.  He moved out and I was ready to move on.

While I was at work one night Jack called and asked me to a movie.  Of course I accepted, and pretty much from that night on we have been together.  We've been through a lot together and he has always been my rock.

Jack backs me on everything, and is there for whatever I want to do.  He is a "doesn't take shit from anyone" kind of guy.  He stands for what he believes in, he does not back down for what he believes, and he will call you on anything he thinks isn't right.  He cracks me up (we have the kind of sense of humor not everyone understands).  He is honest. He is a SUPER hard worker.  For 5 years he worked a full time job and a part time job.  Just recently he was able to quit the part time job.  (He wanted me to be a SAHM so we could raise our kids).  He is very smart (although he will deny that) and has a lot of handy skills we've been able to put to use around the house.  He's strong.  He makes me feel safe.  And of course I find him incredibly handsome!  He's a good father.  He does whatever he can to help someone when they need it.  I couldn't tell you how many furnaces and cars he's fixed for other people.  We have this connection that isn't able to be described by words, but it's this unbreakable bond that at times is almost somewhat creepy.  We think the same things at the same times, and we even say the same things at the same time.  I can't imagine my life without him.  I love him with everything I am and all that I have and am proud to call him my husband!

Wet N Wild Glossy Gloss

A few weeks ago I found the endcap display containing the new Wet N Wild 8 pans, and a few other products as well.  I cleaned out the new palettes and held a giveaway on my YouTube channel, but I decided to go back and take a look at some of the other products in the display.  I ended up purchasing 2 of the new Glossy Gloss shades so I thought I'd share some pictures with you.

L-Frost Bitten, R-A Glass Of Shine

A Glass Of Shine is a little out of my comfort zone, but I thought it might be fun and nice for Christmas.  I was hoping Frost Bitten would be more opaque, a true gold gloss.  Unfortuantely these have a strong (to me) floral and sort of chemical smell.  So much so that I don't think I could even wear these.  I'm very odd about scents and when I don't like something it tends to make me nauseous.  These were only $2.99 each at Walgreens, so not sure I'll return them.

Have you picked up anything from the new displays?

Today I am thankful for: Days 29 & 30

Oh my gosh you guys-I actually did this the WHOLE month! Sure some days I had to cover multiple thanks, but I did it!  Go me! Ok, enough of that, onto business.

Day 29: I'm thankful people are actually willing to watch my YouTube channel.  I really enjoy interacting with people through comments and messages.  I know I must appear a bit insane sometimes, and no one seems to care.

Day 30: I am thankful for ever decision, step, and mistake I have made in my life.  They weren't all the best ideas, but I wouldn't be who I am today (or where I am today) without the path I have traveled.  I have learned valuable lessons, gone through some wild streaks, gained respect for myself, and am a better person for it all.  I am thankful to be me, because there is no other like me!

Today I thankful for:Days 27 & 28

Here I go again, slacking.  Actually the past 2 days my daughter was home sick and I was taking care of her and doing some things around the house.  Anywho, lets get on with it.

Day 27: I've tried to be somewhat deep and big the whole month on things I am thankful for, but for this day, I'm just gonna say I'm thankful for chocolate chunk cookies.  I haven't made cookies in a long time, and I've been staying away from chocolate, and it was nice to have a treat!

Day 28: Today I am thankful that I have been able to get back into working out, and I'm starting to feel more like my old self.  Not getting the palpitations as often and I haven't had an anxiety attack in weeks.  I know I may be pushing it, but I'm going to see if I can handle regular coffee because my decaf is only found at a specific store and it gets to be a little bit of nonsense to go just for a thing of coffee.  Plus the regular stuff tastes SO MUCH BETTER!

Today I am thankful for:Days 25 & 26

Day 25
I am thankful I have such well behaved and good kids.  I was doing some things around the house yesterday and decided to get all their school things in their own piles to be put in storage bins.  There are SO MANY awards!  Perfect Attendance, Gold Honor Roll, Good Citizen, awards for safety patrol and choir, notes and cards of thanks from teachers, interim and report cards with glowing comments....every time I talk to one of their teachers they always have nothing but excellent things to say about the kids.  The teachers at my daughter's school still ask how my son is doing now that he's in middle school.  I've been really lucky that they've had such great teachers that we like.

Day 26
I'm thankful I'm in a position right now that I'm able to stay home for the kids.  They are getting older and there won't be much point in me staying home soon, but today my daughter is sick and home from school, and I'm able to be here and take care of her.  I've been lucky to enjoy being a stay at home mom for about 9 years now.  I got to raise my kids, see them do their "firsts" and even taught 2 of them to read myself.  I was able to home school all 3 of them with a great curriculum that had them well beyond their classes when they started going to school.  If they get sick and need to leave school I can go get them.  When they have awards and programs I'm able to go and never have to worry about missing work or my boss being mad.  I'm very lucky!

I got glasses!

After getting my test results back and being told everything was fine (I'm still not 100% sold on that yet), I figured since I was still having headaches I'd get my eyes checked.  I hadn't had my eyes checked in a really long time-probably at least 10 years.  I ended up going to the Walmart vision center because that's where we took my youngest son last year.  The exam was only $54 so if I was told my eyes were ok, I guess that wasn't too bad.  It turned out that I DID need glasses though.  Not gonna lie, I was kind of happy, hoping my eyes were the cause of my headaches.  I had my exam on a Thursday, and my glasses were ready the following Tuesday.

I have never had to wear glasses before.  I have worn reading glasses here and there, but just for small time periods.  My prescription is full-time.  I wear these all day.  They said it would take a week and a half or two to really adjust to them, and they weren't lying!  The day i picked them up I wore them for about 4 or 5 hours and by the time I went to bed I was so nauseous I thought I was going to throw up.   I've been wearing them all day long since then.  I'm still getting used to them (the outer edges /corners make everything seem a bit wavy), but I'm not having headaches anymore!  Sometimes my eyes bother me a tiny bit, but they also said my eyes would go crazy because the muscles would be trying to adjust to the prescription.  My right eye is worse than my left eye and I had never noticed it before.  Now, when I take my glasses off my right eye goes crazy trying to focus and see.  I can tell a HUGE difference.  I'm just thrilled I'm not having the headaches anymore!  I was having one EVERY day for months.  I had planned on getting my eyes checked and then ll the other stuff happened and it got delayed.  But so glad I finally got it taken care of!  I was an avid sunglasses wearer, so that is a bit of a pain to give up.  I'm still working on that!

Today I am thankful for:Day 24

I know this is going to sound a bit silly, but today I am thankful for my new tires!  We went this morning to Discount Tire and got brand new tires for my van.  This is only the 2nd vehicle I have ever had that I got new tires for.  That sounds bad.  And the ones I had were bad.  Barely any tread left, cracked, dry rot, and one had a busted belt that made the steering wheel wobble like crazy.  With winter coming I figured we'd better take care of that!
